“Remember me” is the thematic song in the movie entitled “Coco” which is heard multiple times throughout the film.

This song was the signature song of Ernesto Dela Cruz, because he performed this before his shocking death that’s why it became the ultimate tribute to his career and legacy as one of Mexico’s greatest musicians of all times.

But this song was not really his but Hector’s. It was really Hector’s work. He wrote the song as a lullaby to his daughter Coco to be close to her and let her remember him even though he was gone.
In my research, I found out that “Remember Me” is really a heartfelt song written by a father (Hector) to his daughter (Coco). Hector wrote this song for Coco for her to remember his father no matter how far apart they are. According to Abby Postlewaite, she stated that “Hector’s love for Coco shines through the lyrics of the song very strongly.”

Remember me was also a remembrance of the dead because this song imploring those listener to remember their loved ones who’ve already passed away, like what was stated by Luke Penny, “The film’s characters yearn to be remembered, whether that’s in pursuit of boundless fame or just to be kept alive in the memory of loved one. Coco supposes that it matters not what great accomplishment yo’re remembered for, nor that you’re forgiven for the mistakes made along the way; what matters is that you’re remembered at all.”

The author wrote this story maybe because he wants us to value our family, love them even though they are far away from us, even if it takes heaven or hell, we need to love and remember them because they are our family. The author not only wants us to value our family but also to pursue our dreams in life though there’s so much hindrance or trials blocking our way.
